Summer projects!

It's been a while since I updated this, but I've been having a productive summer so I thought it would be fun to do a little update.

I've been doing a lot of illustrations just for myself over the summer, was a great relaxing way to detox from the stress of this past year of school.

Mad Eye Moody by SarahLynnReynolds

Here's an example of that, a portrait I did of Mad Eye Moody as a request by one of my DA watchers. You can see more at my tumblr or Deviantart.

And here's very early progress on the environment I started! It's going to be a little ramen shop. it's a small personal environment to finish before I sell my soul to thesis for the next year. VERY early on in the process, still modeling, I should probably wait a bit to share but I suppose it's good to get feedback at all stages and I'm pretty excited about it. Going for a plants vs zombies Garden Warfare stylized look which is new for me.

End of Junior Year, Thesis Concept Art Dump

Junior year is over! I can't believe I'm heading into senior year this fall. Anyways, I thought I'd update with my concept work for thesis. Making this stuff in 3D and UE4 is going to be my life for the rest of the year.

Here's all of my concept work for the characters, props, enviros, etc. I posted some of it before, but certain things have been updated or added.

Pre Production Pitch 1: Hype

This semester is our semester of preproduction for our senior thesis. So we pitch 10 basic concepts for games and then choose two to refine further. For our first concept my teammate and I chose a game called "Hype".

Hype is a hip hop inspired parkour game set in a futuristic dystopian city on an alien planet that was build rather haphazardly over top of a sprawling alien catacomb. Someone discovers that the DNA in the alien remains inside of these catacombs contains a drug that can do some pretty crazy stuff. Access to the drug and catacombs become illegal and you start the game as a low ranking member of the cartel, your job is to harvest and deliver the drug.

Here's our full pitch for the concept:

Final: Dwarven Workshop

So, I'm not super happy with the final outcome of this. But I'll probably continue working on it, or at least re purpose my assets/revisit materials or a portfolio piece later on. I think honestly this is the worst environment I've made this semester, but I think the concept is good enough to rework a bit, and I've still learned a lot which is my main purpose.

Anyways, here are my final images:

DFA Boss Final: Queen LaShiva

Here's my final for the boss character assignment in DFA. I'm pretty excited to figure out how to make it all work in 3D. I think it's going to be a lot of really fun material and particle work. This has probably been my favorite DFA assignment so far this year.

I tried to give her kind of a non-serious description and name, it's super cheesy, but I like all the weird puns.

Here's the final turn around

Game Design: Boss Battle: Attackin' Kraken: The Story of Greybeard Volpa

I worked with Mike Marra to greybox a playable boss battle and two cinematic environments. We also were creating a pitch and a trailer to present to the class and prepare us for the next semester which will be very pre production heavy.

Here's the trailer:

And here's the presentation:
